HPV stands for human papillomavirus and is the name of a very common group of viruses. They do not cause problems in most people, but some types can cause genital warts or cancer.
The most common concern from HPV is Cervical Cancer, and it may link to cancers of the anus, vulva, vagina, penis and oropharynx as well. This is one of the sexual transmitted infections that can be transferred from women to men and vice versa. Research confirmed that at some point in our lives, we contracted HPV and some of us may actually do so repeatedly. Interesting enough, you don’t need intercourse to get this virus, skin on skin contact like just holding hands is pretty much enough.
One other fact about HPV is that it doesn’t always show symptoms, and that is why most sexually active individuals are not aware that they carry HPV, hence it is important that you have a regular checkups for STIs. If you notice a small wart in your genital area, you should get it checked out immediately. Finally, always remember to have safe sex by using condoms but also get vaccinated when you can.
The most popular HPV vaccines are 3 shots that cover 9 strains and our partners are also offering them starting at 8,400 Baht. Give us a call or drop us a message to arrange the appointment for you!
